this weekend was for

an early saturday morning drive to dad & bobbi’s, where emma met us and we drove over to the carolina strawberry festival. tasty homemade strawberry ice cream was had, and we stumbled upon the cutest little mobile boutique. it’s quite the concept, and they have a great selection of unique jewelry and clothing for a [very] reasonable price!

rhyan and em decided to leap into the river to cool off when we got back, and i had a blast documenting their jumps off the dock. dad and i grabbed a beer, and he grilled farm fresh [thick-cut] pork chops from wells while bobbi whipped up her famous vidalia onion casserole and a fresh broccoli salad. best. meal. ever. [seriously]

sunday brought sunshine and blue skies, strong coffee and banana pancakes with fresh sausage. dad and i worked up a sweat building up the riverbank with lime stone, and marta arrived with her new boyfriend just in time for lunch. the boys went swimming after we filled our bellies, and the girls caught up and had quite the laugh at ‘em.

we said our goodbyes and i left with a brand new mother’s day plant from bobbi and a case of my favorite [and now out of season] beer from dad.

it was one of the best mother’s days to date, and i’m so grateful to have a mom here in nc since my [real] mom’s in michigan. i caught up with her over the phone on my drive home, and couldn’t help by feel so very blessed to have two incredible women in my life to call mom.

this weekend in a nutshell: no plans < plans

my best friend jennifer [and partner in crime] called after work friday reminding me of the annual girls ‘spring fling’ party at a mutual friends house. so i ditched my workout plans, and instead spent the evening surrounded with friends, food and nonstop laughs. we all ended up parading over to our local watering hole and staying entirely too late. i saw so many old friends, and it was one of those nights you just couldn’t plan if you tried.

needless to say, i was in no shape to participate in my saturday morning group workout, so i stayed in bed until it was time to meet jamie for lunch. we had such a nice time catching up on each others lives and it was long overdue.

i got a call from my sisters in wilmington after lunch, suggesting i drive down for our friend cody’s birthday. after mulling it over for a minute, i ran home, threw some clothes in a bag, and arrived just in time for his hawaiian themed birthday party. we chowed down on grilled wings and jello shots, bahama mama’s and a jello shot ‘cake’, had karaoke in the garage and a campfire in the back yard, took pictures of our famous ‘i’m shy’ pose and shared so many laughs my cheeks hurt.

we were in bed by midnight and up by nine to grab breakfast at bojangles before marta headed off to work. em & i painted our nails on the deck and read trashy magazines before meeting cody at our favorite mexican restaurant for cinco de mayo beers and the best food around.

i headed home later on, and a ‘quick stop’ to see my guy on the way home ended up being an overnight visit and early to bed sharing our weekend stories. and while i woke up exhausted this morning, i can say without a doubt that it’s some of the most fun i’ve had in a long time.

moral of the story? when life gives you opportunity to be spontaneous and spend time with those you care about most, drop all the excuses and just go.

this weekend was for

skipping my workout friday night and instead moseying around the dogwood festival in downtown mebane with rhyan. [& shopping, of course]

after enduring a tough saturday morning workout, we spent most of the afternoon enjoying the gorgeous weather. [& even spotted a family of geese in the neighborhood!] we grilled out with good friends that evening and stayed up entirely too late drinking cold beers while shootin’ the shit.

sunday was rainy, which meant pancakes and staying in our pajama’s until my guy arrived mid-aftenoon to take us bowling. it was his idea, and how sweet of him to think of something fun for the three of us to do together! after bowling, we chowed down on the most delicious meal at nana taco. [pulled pork quesadillas, pulled pork nachos, and an oreo milkshake. #fatandhappy]

it was the perfect mix of time spent with rhyan, with friends, with my guy.

this weekend was for

many homemade meals and facetime with sam overseas

canoe rides on the river and long walks around the neighborhood

lots of time sitting around catching up on each others lives

a belated easter/birthday celebration for dad and

plenty of snuggle time on the couch in between.

[we even managed a night out while d & b watched rhyan]

it was the perfect weekend filled with sunshine and so much love.

this weekend was for a lot of … emma time!

she arrived friday night and we went straight to nana taco for our all-time favorite pulled pork nachos. after inhaling the entire plate, we went right back home to the couch for some ncaa hoops.

after an early saturday morning workout, we headed out to the ‘ol homestead/farm in efland to help mom unload a giant uhaul in preparation for her move back to nc from michigan this summer. i made a few new best friends while there, in the form of baby pigs. they were hands-down some of the cutest things i’ve ever seen.

while in town, we moseyed over to hillsborough bbq for a late lunch of brunswick stew, hushpuppies, and their [ridiculously delicious] pulled pork nachos. [see a pattern here?!]

i had told leah earlier in the week that emma would be in town and we made plans to have a drink or two at the goat with rob and megs. what a time we had! it was so exciting introducing the girls, and i was thrilled to [finally] meet megs — what a sweetheart!

sunday we spent far too much time in bed, and lazed on the couch until easter dinner with the family. we ate entirely too much food, watched duke get their asses handed to them, and didn’t get to bed until way past my bedtime.

as always, i was sad to see emma head back to wilmington, but glad that i get to see her again this weekend at dad & bobbi’s!

this weekend was one of the laziest i’ve had in quite some time.
rhyan was with his dad, so a majority of it was spent with my guy — watching the ncaa tourney in our pajamas, on either his couch or mine. [plenty of tasty beers were consumed + perhaps a pizza or two]
we managed to get dressed and leave the house saturday night for date night, where we stopped by calavera for empanadas before a brewery tour at aviator brewing company. delicious food, followed by innovative beer makes for quite the enjoyable evening.
all in all, it was a terrific weekend with lots of basketball and down-time with my main squeeze. [no complaints here!]

as mentioned previously, the boys met yesterday. [!!!]
my guy and i had a long conversation after the cope concert last week about our relationship & where things were going, and by the end of our talk he made it clear he was ready to take the next step and meet rhyan.
[back-story on the basketball: after seeing rhyan’s old/worn out one in my car, he commented on how he needed a new/legit/official one]
so i shouldn’t have been surprised when he showed up at our door yesterday with a shiny new ball in hand. introductions were made, we settled in to watch the acc championship and made small talk during the commercials. it was apparent from the start, there’d be no issue with their getting along … they immediately bonded over all things manly & guy-related.
after the game, we hit the basketball court to break in the new ball & show off our skills with the old one. we laughed, we poked fun at one another, and quickly eased into the groove. at one point, rhyan gave me a quick thumbs-up and whispered ‘he’s alright!’ [and yes, i melted]
we returned home to the smell of corn beef roasting in the oven, i put the meal together and we dove in. rhyan later commented on how strange it was to have a third person at the table, which was true … it’s always just been him and i. after dinner we stuffed ourselves with cheesecake and caught up on some dvr’d shows before saying our goodbyes.
i walked him to the car and thanked him for such an incredible day, and he quickly turned the tables — saying it was his absolute pleasure.
and in that moment, all was right in the world.

this weekend was for
sleeping in & waking to the smell of freshly brewed coffee
countless meals & snacks prepared with [lots of] love
our [new] favorite brew, shock top honeycrisp apple wheat
canoe rides on the river & naps in the hammock
a late birthday present for marta & sorting thru old family photos
lengthy conversations & a duke/unc basektball game
plus a couple of gorgeous sunsets on the river …
it was a weekend filled with much needed rest & relaxation!

// this weekend was for//

a lazy friday evening with rhyan, where all we did was eat dinner & catch up on our dvr’d shows from the week.

saturday followed with a tough morning workout with my trainer, an hour long nap & some basketball at the local park. [rhyan headed over to his dads so i could have him this weekend when we visit my dad & bobbi]

i made my way to the goat for drink[s] with the always entertaining & lovable leah, and the impromptu meeting of rob. many laughs, and perhaps a heart to heart were had before i found myself in the company of my guy … who was in the mood for moonlight pizza & beer before snuggles on the couch watching snl.

we were completely unmotivated to run sunday morning, but somehow managed to get out the door and dug deep for a five mile jaunt on the trails. which of course earned a reward of freshly brewed coffee, homemade steak & eggs, with sauteed onions & fresh avocados … and a nap afterwards.

it was a do-nothing kinda weekend, one i most certainly enjoyed.

this weekend was for doing a lot of nothing.
after an early saturday workout, rhyan and i headed over blend cafe [they had so many games!!] in downtown durham for sandwiches & coffee. it was so sunny & nice out, we walked around the farmers market before stumbling upon nomadic trading company. if you haven’t been before, you must check it out. i found a beautiful chair i really really wanted, i mean — it matched my eyes perfectly!
rhyan had a basketball game that afternoon, and we stopped by banditos for a mexican feast before heading home for movie night. i [finally] introduced him to sister act & sister act 2, talk about a walk down memory lane.
sunday morning brought hot coffee & waffies [aka waffles] before shootin’ some hoops at the neighborhood park and taking a stroll around downtown chapel hill. the remainder of the day was spent on the couch watching football and baking some ridiculously awesome brownies with trader joe’s fleur de sel caramel.
and yes, the diet started back promptly monday morning.

this weekend was for
trying new beers friday night with my guy before the marc maron show [which was just okay, we were a bit disappointed] followed by a late night snack at snoopy’s: because sometimes you just want need a hot dog with hot fries.
saturday morning was for a long trail run, and breakfast together before parting ways for rhyan’s basketball game. while they lost the game, it was against one of the best teams in the league - so that somehow made it okay.
a phone call from a good friend late that afternoon turned into last minute girls night, complete with a ton of laughs + cold beers. [and maybe some dancing] just what we all needed, a fun and fancy-free saturday night out.
while sunday brought a beautiful warm day, it also brought a hellacious hangover. all i could do was curl up on the couch + watch football all afternoon, shame on me!
needless to say, this weekend was a good one!

this weekend was for
skipping the gym friday night & instead picking out a christmas tree with rhyan
& decorating while we watched christmas vacation. [our favorite]
saturday brought a host of christmas parties, of which i attended two:
many tasty drinks, delicious foods, and photos with friends were had …
i went to sleep late that night reminded of just how blessed i am.
sunday was for lazing around the house with rhyan
before attending the raleigh ringers concert
& enjoying dinner outside at moonlight pizza afterwards.
oh, and maybe frozen yogurt and an early bedtime too …
this weekend was for getting [all] into the spirit of christmas!

this weekend was for …

a friday afternoon drive to south carolina to visit my brother
and sleeping in late on saturday morning before lots of coffee
a lazy afternoon catching up & cheezin’ for the camera
all while thinking of our beloved papa on his 97th birthday
sending sam & alex off to the marine ball
so we could make pizza, eat popcorn & watch movies
and wake up early for cartoons & snuggles on the couch
before lunch in downtown beaufort on a gorgeous sunday

it’s always hard leaving family, especially when they live so far away …
but i’m so happy we were able to spend some [much needed] time with them!

this weekend was for
emma arriving from wilmington just in time for dinner at nana taco,
where we split a huge plate of pulled pork nachos. [& tacos]
a friday night movie on the couch, with popcorn and
an early saturday morning for the color me rad 5k in raleigh.
[one of the funnest things i’ve ever done]
brunch at elmo’s afterward,
while still decked out in our colors.
a disheartening nc state loss to carolina
followed by a fun & fantastic 30th birthday party for a friend.
sunday was for couch time with rhyan watching movies & football,
and running out for a couple of pumpkins to carve.

taking friday off work & driving to the coast

homemade blt’s and a late afternoon nap

fresh fried fish with the works

and the best chocolate banana cake a girl could ask for.
